Excellent book on transparency and how to guide a franchise network. A must read for anyone building, growing and improving their franchise. Also fantastic read for people considering buying or having bought a franchise as this book very clearly explains their roles and responsibilities and how they lead to success.
I wanted economic lessons, not business fluff. There is just absolutely little value to what is offered here, it's just a way of assigning people personalities to exploit in your business model. The practicality I was looking for was not in this book, there was no philosophy, no depth. If I were to buy a franchise, this book wouldn't help as it seems the only learning curve is real life experience. Do not buy, ask real owners face to face and do not use this as an economic guide.
An excellent guide for those thinking about investing in a franchise based business. Provides information to help you through the decision process and a means to analyze the risks and benefits associated with investing your capital and time into such an endeavor.
I've been in franchising for over 25 years and have owned many franchises as well as help hundreds of people start their own franchise. As a franchise developer, I give this book to anybody I know who wants to start a franchise. Everybody I give the book to says it has been helpful in their decision to start a franchise, and answered many of the fears they have when starting a business. Joe outlines the concerns people have when starting a franchise in a very realistic way. He also gives the truth of franchise ownership from both sides of the spectrum. If you or somebody you know is thinking about starting a franchise or buying a franchise, Street Smart Franchising is a must read.
Book goes through things pretty well and spoke to the process and various mental challenges. I didn't rate the book higher because I found it difficult to work my way through it. It spoke to all the things you should do in an ideal world but I doubt anyone does. Certainly a good book to go through before purchasing a franchise.

The information in here is great but it appears the authors self-edited. There are frequent repetitions and typos throughout.
Having owned multiple franchises since 1996, this book resonates with the reality of the emotional as well as the logical how to of selecting franchise ownership for the right reasons and selecting a particular franchise for the right reasons. There are a couple of points I don't agree with 100% but definitely believe it is useful, relevant content for people thinking about possibly owning a franchise and those who already do.
