Little Owl's Night is one of our favorite bedtime books and we own a ton of books! This book is one that our 2 1/2 year old twins will actually sit down and listen to because it's great at capturing children's attention. It tells the story of Little Owl who is flying through the sky looking at the animals and seeing what they are doing or the sounds they are making. He loves looking at the stars, moon and night sky and wants his animal friends to see it too. The story itself is written in such a calming and enchanting way that makes it an excellent bedtime story. The illustrations are fantastic and each page has one or two sentences so it doesn't get too long-winded. We have the board book version and it is made of fairly thick pages and even after many months of owning this book, it is still in practically brand-new condition considering we read it very often! This book will make an excellent addition to any child's library and I very highly recommend it! I look forward to checking out the author's new books as well!
I hope more people will hear about and read this book. The prose doesn't rhyme, but it has a soothing cadence. I love how this story celebrates the wonders of night in the forest. Cute creatures of the night go about their business while their day counterparts snooze adorably in the corner of the page. The moon and stars are celebrated for their quiet beauty. Perhaps this story will go some way to eroding the traditional fear of the dark many kids (and parents) have.I find it perfect as a bedtime story as it's very soothing. I started reading it to my daughter at two months, she probably doesn't understand but likes looking at the illustrations,and the story is relaxing rather than stimulating compared to other happy fun kids books which seem more suited to the day! Highly recommended!
My baby loves this book. It's held his attention since we first read it when he was 2 months old, and now that he's 9 months old all I have to do to make him laugh and crawl to me is ask if he wants to read "Little Owl." The illustrations and text are nice enough in my opinion, but nothing about it makes me understand why my baby loves it so much. I think perhaps he likes the contrast with the black background. It's about him, though, and whatever it is about this book that he loves, it's amazing. I like that unlike some of our other so called board books, this one has thicker, sturdier pages. My baby loves this one so much, however, that he doesn't even try to chew it. He's chewed chunks out of his other favorites but he's too busy turning pages and looking at the pictures to try to take a bite of Little Owl.
This is a really cute book. I have to admit, it took a little while to grow on us. We read a lot of either silly Sandra Boynton books or serious, meaningful books, like "The night you were born". This one doesn't have a rhyming poem style to it, or a really deep message. It's just all around cute and fun.After reading it a couple times I started to really enjoy it. The story walks us through little owl's night out. He visits different friends and has a little adventure. It has high contrast pictures and the cutest little owl ever. The story is just the right length for my 2 year old and I. Every night I let him chose 2-8 books depending on what time we get ready for bed. He choses this one about half the time. I don't dread it like I do others (like "Doggies" by Sandra Boynton). I wouldn't hesitate to buy this one again.
PERFECT! My Grand Daughter got this as a second B-day gift and my daughter says she loves it. They live in a different country than I do so I rely on other reviews to find just the right books. This book has great reviews and I just want to ad one more. The story is so sweet and the book is very sturdy for all the loving abuse a two year old can dish out. The pictures are so pretty and will keep your little one interested for a long time to come.If you are iffy on this do not be, it is a beautiful book and I feel certain your little person will love it as much as mine did.Shipped fast and was a thoughtful gift.
This is a beautiful kids book, with amazing, high-contrast illustrations and a touching, almost twist-ending bedtime theme. The owl sees all of the things in the night, and by the end, dawn comes, and the owl is fast asleep. It captured my infant's attention the whole way through, and I'm sure she'll love it into toddlerhood and beyond. My baby loves the rich illustrations and loves to touch the board book.We loved it so much, we've ordered two more little owl books, and we'll probably buy more from Divya Srinivasan. I love that there's continuity in the series.
As someone who buy my daughter many different kinds of books, small, big, long, short, this was a huge disappointment. I thought it would be cute but honestly if is just not good. I guess kids might like it because I find the owl cute but the story has absolutely no flow, no rhyming, just nothing going for it. It does puzzle me how there is high reviews for this book which is why I bought it.But again, as someone who tries out many different books and dreads every day to my daughter, I have given this book multiple times and it’s literally my least favorite out of her whole shelf of books.
We ordered this book a few months ago on the recommendation of Lucie's List. We'd never heard of it but Meg hasn't ever steered us wrong. Our toddler was around 14 months at the time and _loved_ it. Still does. When we first got it, he had us read it over and over and over. Now he reads it with us, saying animal names. I fell in love with some of the language in the book. "Spiderwebs turn to silver threads" and the colors of the sunrise read aloud always seems to make me peaceful and happy. It's just beautiful. Wonderful addition to any child's library.
